ERASMUS+ UNESCO
Making UNESCO World Heritage Sites Appealing to the Young
Exchange 1 - from Folkestone to Budapest
11.11.2018-17.11.2018

Between the 11th and 17th of November 2018, our school was visited by our partner school from Folkestone, Earlscliffe. The program was made possible within the framework of a winning Erasmus+ KA2 school partnership project, the primary objective of which is to enable young people to visit and admire UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Our goal furthermore is also to get to know the culture and history of the partner city. The project is carried out in English, there are four trips during the project year, where they visit our school twice, and we visit theirs twice. First, the English students could explore the attractions of our beloved capital, Budapest, they could admire the beauties of Pécs and study the unique animal life and flora of the Hortobágy National Park.

The first group's programs were organized by 10th and 11th graders, with the help of Mrs.Tímea Bem and Mrs. Dürr Zsuzsa project leader teachers. The two teachers, Charles Crowther and Janet Wang, as well as the seven students Alan Vogel, Emira Heyecan, Harmony Uwaga, Kelvin Oo, Nicholas de Haan, Zofia Rutkowska, Mkye Byfield-D'sane, and the teacher little son, arrived late at night close to our school, so we met them the next day. They arrived at the school at 10, we spent the whole day with them, first, we introduced ourselves, then we talked and presented presentations about Hungary. During the afternoon free time, we took them to our favorite places, the four 10th graders Eszti, Kriszti, Örs, and Beni cooked a delicious Hungarian lunch for them in a place called Gastro Lounge. Here is the Menu.

On Tuesday we took part in a full day excursion at Hortobágy National Park, led by Zsuzsa Dürr. In the Wildlife Park, we saw many unique animals like wild horses and wolves. Later after lunch, we took a guided tour in the village museum, we admired the famous nine-hole bridge, and got to know the legends related to it.

On Wednesday we went for a city tour in Budapest, led by Ádám Lajtai. We visited the Buda Castle, the Fishermen's Bastion, we looked at the bridges and then walked over to the Pest side on the Chain Bridge, which was especially appealing to our guests. Every Hungarian participant prepared a brief introduction to sites, which they talked about on the spot. Then we looked at the Synagogue, walked a little in the city and dined together. We've also visited some really unique sites such as the famous Szimpla Kert.

On Thursday went on a full day excursion to Pécs under the guidance of Balázs Pólya and a guide to Pécs. The main attraction was the Seven-Star Chapel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We visited the Zsolnay district and the famous Gyugyi exhibition. We went to Széchenyi Square, we admired the beautiful buildings and the Gaza Pasha Pasha's mosque. We tasted the cakes of a craft candy store. Our guests really enjoyed the excursion and found Pécs beautiful.
On Friday, the final day we had a school program again, we talked about our common experiences, we solved quizzes, we wrote memoirs to each other, and we created a poster from our shared photos. Following the farewell speeches, our guests thanked us for our hospitality and emphasized that they were waiting for us in February 2019 at Earlscliffe School in Folkestone. On Friday afternoon, after visiting the Gellért Bath, we held a farewell party and a farewell dinner in downtown.
