ERASMUS+ UNESCO
Making UNESCO World Heritage Sites Appealing to the Young
Exchange 3 - from Budapest to Folkestone
18.03.2019-24.03.2019
Our plane has departed from Budapest on Monday, the 18th of March, with 8 of my fellow schoolmates and 2 of our teachers. The main goal of this trip was to discover the UNESCO world heritage sites of England, our objective was to make these sites more appealing to the youth, all within the Erasmus+ KA2 programme.
As we arrived in London we were driven to the guest house in Folkestone where we were greeted by the British students. Later that day we visited the sea shore and the school as well, where we met the teachers.
The following day, on Tuesday we had breakfast at the school, then we took the train to London. From the train station we traveled by the underground to Kew Gardens which was gorgeous, then we headed towards the city centre. We walked on the Millennium bridge and took a quick look at the city from the top of Tate Modern. We strolled past the Globe theatre and the London Bridge, soon after that we took the train back to Folkestone.
On Wednesday, we visited the English capital one last time. On this occasion we had a guided tour in Westminster Abbey, seen the Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and Downing Street, and we later had dinner near Covent Garden at a Canadian pub the Maple Leaf. Our guide on that day was Charlie Crowther, a teacher from Earlsciffe, who did a lovely job showing us around the city.
The following day, we got on the bus and traveled for 4 long hours to see Stonehenge and its own museum as well. I think it was very mysterious, touching and spiritual, the fact that they were preserved in their original places was quite interesting. After our spiritual awakening we visited the Salisbury cathedral, as well as the town itself.
On Friday we could take a peek into the ways of English education whilst attending a few of the classes Earlsciffe offer, we were quite impressed with it. The rest of the day was free, when we explored the rest of Folkestone by strolling by the seaside and the harbour.
On Saturday we woke up very early to take some photographs of the Folkestone harbour. We received official certificates that thanks us for our cooperation in the programme, all of us are pretty proud of that. Afterwards, in the afternoon we traveled by coach to Canterbury where we saw the cathedral and took a walk in the gorgeous city.
On the last day of our trip we had breakfast at the inn. Soon after headed towards Gatwick airport where we took our flight back to Budapest.
I, as I speak on behalf of all my schoolmates, would like to show my gratitude for my teachers, who organised the programme and made it possible for us to travel to marvellous world heritage sites. Apart from my teachers we owe huge thanks to the teachers from Folkestone as well as the students for the warm and welcoming hospitality.
